Guys on Ice
The Port Polson Players continue their 42nd season of Theatre with a revival of their popular production of the Ice Fishing Musical, Guys on Ice. This musical comedy plays at Polson’s beautiful Theatre on the Lake only three performances – June 16,17,18. Friday and Saturday curtain is at 8 pm, with a Sunday matinee at 2. Tickets are $18 for adults and $17 for senior citizens and students. Call (406) 883-9212 or go to PortPolsonPlayers.com for reservations or more information.
Marvin, played by Missoula guest artist Matt Loehrke, is an avid fisherman and admirer of Cubby Cvernan (da fishin’ show guy). He eagerly awaits the arrival of his television hero and asks his pal Lloyd, played by Polson’s Neal Lewing, to join him. The two guys toss back a few beers, sing a few tunes and tell stories, all the while hoping they can wrangle a catch to show off to Cubby. Marvin dreams of TV fame and dating the cashier with the Packers tattoo at the Pick-N-Save.
They are periodically interrupted by Ernie the Moocher, Polson’s Bob Mazurek, who entertains them on an assortment of musical instruments and absconds with beer, bait and belly laughs. Polson’s Beth Rowley accompanies the “Guys” on piano.
This “man’s musical comedy” by Fred Alley and James Kaplan is a straightforward look into a chilly Wisconsin world where ice fishing and the Green Bay Packers are among life’s most important cornerstones.
The show is chronicled with tunes such as “Ode to a Snowmobile Suit,” “The One that Got Away,” “Fish is the Miracle Food” and “The Beer in the Bucket.” Songs are hilarious (did you know you can make music with snowsuit zippers?) also heartfelt as the Guys on Ice bear their souls in this refreshing and uproarious show.
